Collingwood’s newest ruckman, John Ceglar, is looking forward to the challenge of cracking into what is considered as one of the strongest ruck stocks in the AFL.
Acquired by the club during trade week which also saw Andrew Krakouer arrive at the Magpies for pick 25, Ceglar understands the task ahead of him but is delighted with his new destination.
“It’s an amazing feeling to be selected by such a successful club,” Ceglar told Collingwoodfc.com.au on Thursday.
“Collingwood’s success will make it hard to get a senior game but it’s a challenge I am looking forward to.”
Ceglar was a standout for Vic Country in the U 18s this year averaging 13 hitouts and three marks in five matches. Listed at 203-centimetres, the mobile ruckman admitted he was relieved that he didn’t have to wait until November to know where his fate would end up.
“It’s all happened so quickly. I thought I would have to wait until November for the draft. To be already on a list and not worry about the stress is unreal.
“I really wanted to stay in Victoria because my family lives in Wodonga so the whole thing has been fantastic.”
Ceglar was quick to highlight the depth of ruck talent at Magpie land and sees the arsenal as something which will help develop his game further.
“I have a lot of hard work to do and am already looking forward to the challenge. I can’t wait for preseason.
“To work under Jolly, who is at the top, and played two really good grand finals, is going to be great.”
John is the son of former North Melbourne player David Ceglar, who played seven games for the club from 1986 to 1987. His experience at the highest level has helped John arrive at Collingwood.
“My dad has always helped me with my areas of improvement. I support North Melbourne because of my dad but I suppose that’s changed now.”
