Luke Shuey from the West Coast Eagles is the Round Two NAB AFL Rising Star nominee.
The midfielder was one of the Eagles’ best players in their 18-point victory over Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium last Saturday.
In his eighth AFL match, 20-year-old gathered 27 possessions, six clearances and kicked three goals.
Luke was selection 18 in the 2008 NAB AFL Draft from the Oakleigh Chargers, but injury has kept him sidelined for most of the past two seasons.
West Coach said John Worsfold said it was pleasing to see Luke fit and making the most of his opportunity.
“Luke’s highly rated around the club and we’re happy to have him up and running after a couple of injury-interrupted seasons. He reads the play well, his skills are clean and it’s great that he’s now been able to show what he’s capable of,” he said.
Originally from the Bulleen-Templestowe Junior Football Club in Melbourne, Luke played for the Oakleigh Chargers and was a member of Vic Metro’s winning side in the 2008 NAB AFL Under 18 Championships.
Following each round of the home and away season, a panel of judges will select a NAB AFL Rising Star nominee. At the completion of the season, one of these nominees will be chosen as the 2011 NAB AFL Rising Star.
The 2011 NAB AFL Rising Star will receive a personal investment folio and a dedicated personal banker, courtesy of NAB.
NAB will recognise the junior clubs that helped foster the early careers of the nominated players. Each of the 24 clubs will receive a NAB Club Recognition Award, a package of practical and financial resources designed to assist them in developing future champions.
The NAB AFL Rising Star is the pinnacle of the NAB AFL Rising Stars Program, which supports grassroots players and football communities and helps young Australians fulfil their dream of playing in the AFL.
