The Eastern Ranges continued on with their good form last weekend defeating Geelong to make it four wins on the trot as Anthony Cheyne reports.
In cool conditions at Box Hill City Oval the Ranges made the most of their first quarter opportunities taking the lead 4.1 to 2.3 at quarter time and were never headed, repelling the Falcons from half back through hard work and run.
The second quarter was similar to the first with Eastern doing more with their scoring chances and controlling the game off half back and through the middle. The Rangers side put plenty of pressure on Geelong with their tackling and attack on the ball carrier forcing the mistakes that allowed them to get their running game going.
Geelong scored a late goal to keep them in the contest at half time but it was Eastern again in the third quarter increasing their lead with another 4 goal to 2 term giving them a 40 point lead at the final break. They kept the pressure on in the last quarter holding Geelong to one goal and wrapping up their fourth win in a row and holding their spot in the top 4.
Eastern where well served by Hayden Crozier taking the goal kicking pressure off Jonathon Patton with 4 goals. His leading into space gave Eastern a different look in the forward half they needed to go along with the strong marking Patton who was good for 3 goals on the day.
Defensive trio Pat Lawlor, Nathan Mill and Ben Slattery gave Ranges plenty of run out of the back half and worked in well with midfielders Damien Volta, Jesse Field, Max Warren and Alex Greenwood.
Geelong’s best where Andrew Boseley, Jackson Merrett, Cameron Tudor and Ryan Monaghan.
