They'll be Giants if Brisbane doesn't get in the way.
WHEN Dom Tyson met Adam Tomlinson they were both in their final year of primary school, picked to play for Victoria in an under-12 carnival in Canberra. Football wasn't all that brought the Camberwell Shark and the Canterbury Cobra together, though.
''We made the connection that we were going to the same secondary school the next year, and that was all it took,'' Tyson said. ''It doesn't take much to become mates when you're that age.''
Six years later, the boys have barely been apart. Tomlinson crossed to Camberwell the following winter and they have since teamed up for their Trinity Grammar side, for the Oakleigh Chargers and Vic Metro at this year's under-18 championships.
It might not be over yet, either. Unless Brisbane gets in the way, they could be moving to Greater Western Sydney together as top 10 draft picks. But despite all they have shared, they will arrive at draft day from slightly different angles.
When new Oakleigh coach Greg Doyle met them at the start of the year, he knew Tomlinson was already considered a top five or 10 draft pick, as a forward who loved to work over opponents by running, running and running some more. He knew some queried Tyson's pace and weren't sure he could become more than ''just'' an inside midfielder. But he had an open mind. ''I'd had a little bit to do with Adam but nothing at all to do with Dom, so it was interesting to see how they went about it.'' Doyle said. ''Dom had all these things he had to really disprove, and he worked really hard. He worked on getting a bit quicker, he did a lot of work on his kicking and he just kept getting better, whereas Adam had a lot of things that he was trying to live up to.
