As of this Saturday, AFL footy is back and better than ever, with the TAC Cup being well represented in the season opening game; GWS versus. Sydney Swans.
Greater Western Sydney are making their first appearance in the competition this weekend and as a result many 2010 and 2011 TAC Cup players will be making their AFL debut. 44 percent of the squad named for Saturday night’s game have been recruited from the TAC Cup during these years.
From the 2010 graduation group, the following players will be lining up; Thomas Bugg (Gippsland Power) – Full Back, Jeremy Cameron (North Ballarat Rebels) – Full Forward, and Dylan Shiel (Dandenong Stingrays) – Follower.
2011 TAC Cup players that will be donning the orange include; Devon Smith (Geelong Falcons) –Forward, Will Hoskin-Elliott (Western Jets) – Half Back, Dom Tyson (Oakleigh Chargers) – Interchange, Adam Tomlinson – Interchange, Toby Greene (Oakleigh Chargers) – Interchange, and Tom Downie (North Ballarat Rebels) – Emergency.
These young guns will need to step up due to key recruits Tom Scully, Luke Power, Dean Brogan and Setanta O’hAilpin being sidelined with injuries.
This newly formed local derby will not be an easy encounter for GWS, with the Swans performing well so far this year. Will the mature Sydney bodies be too much for the GWS young guns?
Best of luck to all the TAC Cup graduate for their AFL debuts Saturday night.
