Regional Victorian footy fans will have the chance to sign up and show their commitment to slowing down on the roads when the TAC Cup country carnival begins on Saturday. At the Eureka Stadium starting at 11am, Murray Bushrangers, North Ballarat Rebels, Geelong Falcons and the Bendigo Pioneers will all kick-off their seasons in the double header.
To celebrate the TAC Cup’s 21st Year and the competitions re-branding to Speed Hurts, TAC will be conducting range of activities promoting the importance of staying safe on the road. Football players, parents, coaches and all supporters are encouraged to visit the TAC site at Eureka Stadium and have their photo taken to show their support for reducing speed-related trauma on Victorian roads. The photos from all TAC Cup regions will be compiled at the end of the season to form a community mural of support for reducing speeding.
AFL Victoria General Manager Grant Williams said the 21st Year of the TAC Cup was a great time to highlight the long lasting partnership between the TAC and AFL Victoria.
“The partnership supports a broader program that aims to develop and educate young players and prepare them for life on and off the field,” Mr Williams said.
“We need to keep highlighting the important issue of road safety and the AFL Victoria TAC Cup competition is one of the ways we can keep it at the forefront of young Victorians minds.”
Regional drivers in particular need to understand that speeding is one of the biggest killers on the roads. TAC CEO Janet Dore adds that “Whether you are driving on a busy Melbourne freeway or the back roads to footy training, driving within the speed limit and to the conditions is not only the law, but it could save your life”.
