Saturday 21st April at 7:40pm was a defining moment in the career of Jack Crisp. The 18 year old utility stepped out onto the Gabba, making his AFL debut for the Brisbane Lions in their 65 point win over the Gold Coast Suns.
Crisp hails from Myrtleford in Victoria’s north and played his TAC Cup football in 2010 and 2011 at the Murray Bushrangers.
The young recruit has proved to the football public that getting a foot into an AFL Club is all that you need to succeed. After being overlooked in 2011 NAB AFL Draft, Crisp was later selected by the Lions in the AFL Rookie Draft at number 40. He took the chance that was given to him and made it into an opportunity, waiting only four rounds into his first year to be picked over other draftees to represent the Club at the highest level.
Crisp did not take a backwards step on Saturday evening, accumulating 17 disposals, 4 tackles and kicking 3 behinds.
The potential this 190cm left footer holds is an exciting prospect for the Brisbane Lions as they build their side into a future powerhouse.
Several other 2011 TAC Cup players continued their new-found AFL careers over the weekend.
- Jack Newnes (Northern Knights) lined up for St Kilda in their close match against the Fremantle Dockers. Newnes managed 6 kicks, 6 handballs and 2 marks in the three quarters he played.
- Jackson Paine (Sandringham Dragons) represented the Magpies on Saturday against Port Adelaide. Jackson had 5 disposals, 3 tackles and slotted through a goal for the victors.
- Adam Kennedy (Western Jets), Devon Smith (Geelong Falcons) and Adam Tomlinson (Oakleigh Chargers) all played a part in the Giants impressive performance against the Crows at AAMI Stadium.
- Brandon Ellis (Calder Cannons) helped Richmond give the Geelong Cats a decent scare on Sunday afternoon. Ellis shone for the Tigers amassing 19 disposals and 5 tackles which resulted in being picked as one of the Club’s best on field performances.
