Northern Knights vs Calder Cannons
Northern Knights host Calder Cannons as what looms to be an important match for both teams. The Knights are coming of a strong loss to the Dandenong Stingrays, but have displayed good fight and will need to start putting some wins on the board to keep up with the rest of the competition. No better task than coming up against the Cannons who will be seething after a close loss to Eastern Ranges and will be looking for a big win to stay in contention with the top two. The Knights would be equally as frustrated, as they were well in the game at three quarter time and up by a point last round, but could not go on with it in the final term. The Cannons will need to be on their game to stop the dynamic duo of Bonnadio and Turner who both kicked 3 goals and were named best on ground last week. The Knights likewise will need to put pressure on Gallucci and Owen who are in red hot form and are instrumental for the Cannons if they are to win. An intriguing contest awaits but you would think that the Calder Cannons might just have the edge.
Oakleigh Chargers vs Eastern Ranges
Eastern Ranges kept their finals hopes alive after a stirring win against the Cannons last week, with Cavarra and Honeychurch putting on a show. Their opponents Oakleigh Chargers will come out firing after their 81 defeat by the Jets. Their percentage took a hit but the likes of Boreland and Canterbury will be looking for a good game to boost their credentials. The Ranges will be looking to keep up their form as they have now won three in a row. No better task than to beat the talented Chargers at their home ground.
Western Jets vs Dandenong Southern Stringrays
The Jets and Stingrays will lock horns on Saturday at Burbank oval at 1:00 pm. The Western Jets are in a rich vein of form after beating the Chargers in a one sided game. White was on song in the game booting a massive 5 goals. Their midfielders of Bench and Iles will need to be on their game to stop the talented mids and forwards of Dandenong. The Stingrays will be full of confidence after being behind at the last change to come storming home against the Knights and taking the honours. Pongracic – who was a key last week, will be missing on Vic Country duties. In what looms as a tantalising match there could be an upset brewing.
Sandringham Dragons vs Bendigo Pioneers
In a battle of 4th and 11th place Sandringham host Bendigo on Saturday. Bendigo will try their hardest to oppose their game last week that saw them slip to 11th place with only 8 points next to their name. They were completely outplayed against Gippsland who made a strong surge to equal top of the ladder with Stringer the only multiple goal kicker for Bendigo. Sandringham are also coming off a loss and will be looking to improve on their second half fade out in their game against the Rebels with only 2 last quarter goals to the oppositions 5. With important roles for Wilson and Chisari, both teams will be looking to add 4 extra points to their name after losses last week.
Murray Bushrangers vs Gippsland Power
Murray Bushrangers and Gippsland Power will start play at 2:00pm on Saturday, both meeting half way in Melbourne for this match. This game is set the be the game of round with the Bushrangers looking for revenge and a win after a narrow 3 point loss last week to the Falcons. This week their kicking needs to be straight with 5 more points than goals at three quarter time last week being their downfall. Their backline also needs to be on top of their game as they come up against an intimidating forward line of Gippsland. If they let the likes of Scott and Northe run wild then they will have no chance of moving up to 3rd place.
Geelong Falcons vs North Ballarat Rebels
The top of the table Rebels will take on Geelong down at Chirnside Park on the lone Sunday game at 1pm. In a match that will surely attract plenty of attention, the Rebels will be looking to keep up their big winning streak. The well balanced side of Geelong will be looking at maximise the input of the list of their talented stars after a 3 point win last week that will provide their team with a lot of experience. Likewise North Ballarat have come of a win and if they get the four points could put a stretch between them and the rest of the competition. The Rebels would be considered favourites to many at this stage but the likes of Fort, Watson and Gribble who were named in the best last week, will push them all the way.
