BIG GAME: Daniel Godsmark is desperate to lead Bonnie Doon to victory over Glenrowan on Saturday. PHOTO: Caitlin Sartori
IT may only be the halfway mark of the season, but for second and third-placed Bonnie Doon and Glenrowan, Saturday could be a make-or-break contest.
Given the format of the current system, the belief is that winning a grand final from outside the top two is next to impossible.
Finish the season in second spot and you need win only one game to progress to the decider.
But come in third and you’ll need to chalk up three straight finals victories to get to the big dance.
It’s a scenario that Bonnie Doon coach Daniel Godsmark has given plenty of thought, and he is determined to see the Bombers maintain their grip on a top two position.
Win tomorrow and the Bombers will not only stay second, but open up an eight-point gap over the Tigers.
But a loss would see them fall to fourth.
“It’s that old cliché – it’s an eight point game for us,” Godsmark said.
“Tarra is out in front at the moment, so we need to do everything we can to stay ahead of the rest.”
