TARRAWINGEE’S spot in the Ovens and King Football League’s top two remains safe, for now, after the Bulldogs torched Moyhu in the second half to post a 50-point win on Saturday.
In a match that had all the hallmarks of finals football early on, the Hoppers’ pressure around the contest and physicality proved a huge obstacle for the Bulldogs, who struggled to move the ball with any sort of rhythm.
Kyle Raven, starting the match with 90 goals for the season, pounced on an early opportunity and snapped truly with his left foot eight minutes in, but Moyhu answered with back-to-back majors through the two Coreys – Smith and Dagoli – to hold sway at quarter time.
Sam Neave’s brilliant ball usage went unrewarded after he twice hit up the leading Raven, who missed both set shots, and the yips proved contagious as Tarrawingee registered seven behinds in succession.
At the other end there were no such issues, with the Hoppers making the most of limited chances to go in with a five-point lead at halftime despite the fact they had had half as many shots on goal.
But for all the hard work, Moyhu was blown off the park in the third term.
