THE idea that the Ovens and King premiership race is wide open may have been put to bed after a sizzling half of football from Glenrowan in Saturday’s semi final clash with Bonnie Doon.
The Kelly Tigers are through to a fourth consecutive grand final, and look to have one hand on their third straight premiership cup following a 60-point win over the Bombers at Tarrawingee.
In a match that had the punters on a knife’s edge trying to tip a winner, Glenrowan put the result beyond doubt with a blindingly brilliant first quarter.
While the ball was locked on the clubrooms wing for the first five minutes as the two combatants wrestled for control, from that point on it was a clinic.
The Tigers piled on the first three goals of the match in the space of four minutes as Mat Duffy and Matt Robinson found space in general play, and Jordan Hansted got on the end of a pass from Fraser Elliott.
Space was the key for Glenrowan, with the forward line players never getting in the way of one another, always conscious of getting to the open side for the quick release.
