AMID the cheers of celebration there were an equal number of sighs of relief among the Tarrawingee faithful yesterday afternoon, as the Bulldogs held off a fast finishing Milawa to win by 15 points.
The Bulldogs dominated the opening half of play and were never headed, but they had to defend as if their lives depended on it during the final term, with the Demons charging home.
Having got out to a 36-point lead late in the third term on the back of brilliant displays from Sam Neave, Jamie Bell and Jordan Solimo, Tarrawingee began to show signs of fatigue.
A 55m goal on the run from Sam Bowers against the flow of play sparked the Demons, and when Tom Dunstan converted from a free kick the deficit was reduced to 24 points with a quarter to play.
Rejuvenated, Milawa began the final stanza with all the running.
Having been kept quiet in the first half, Ben Clarke started to get his hands on the ball, while Brent Newton worked hard to put his stamp on the contest.
