TAC Cup 13 taken as AFL Rookies

12 TAC Cup players were selected in the 2016 NAB AFL Rookie Draft on Monday, adding to the 44 TAC Cup players taken in the AFL Draft on Friday night.

This number was expanded to lucky 13 with Murray Bushranger Zach Sproule preselected by GWS.

This provided Murray Bushrangers three rookie selections, followed by Geelong Falcons and Calder Cannons with two rookies each, while the Oakleigh Chargers, Dandenong Stingrays, Sandringham Dragons, Eastern Ranges, Western Jets and North Ballarat Rebels each provided one.

Taking AFL Draft selections into account, losing TAC Cup Grand Finalists the Bushrangers boast the most players to have joined an AFL list across the 2016 drafts with 10 total selections (seven in the AFL Draft). Murray is followed by 2016 TAC Cup premiers the Dragons and also the Chargers, both with eight total selections (seven each in the AFL Draft).

The Rebels and Ranges produced six total selections, the Bendigo Pioneers and Falcons four, the Stingrays and Cannons three, the Northern Knights and Jets two, and the Gippsland Power one.

Three members of the 2016 TAC Cup Team of the Year were taken in the Rookie Draft, with Oakleigh defender/midfielder Taylin Duman (by Fremantle - pictured), Sandringham ruckman Lachlan Filipovic (Melbourne) and Murray midfielder James Cousins (Hawthorn) finding homes on AFL lists, while 2016 Calder Cannons best and fairest Ben Ronke was picked up by Sydney.
