THE Ovens and King Football Netball League community need not wait any longer with the 2017 WAW Credit Union OKFNL officially unveiled today.
Following weeks of work and planning from the league, the draw has finally come together with the first round of the 2017 OKFNL season to commence on Saturday, April 1. Reigning senior football premiers Glenrowan will kick-start their quest for an unprecedented fourth consecutive flag against 2016 minor premier Bonnie Doon while A grade premier King Valley travels to Tarrawingee as they set their sights on a third title on the trot.
Round two will be split over two weeks with the annual Good Friday games – Moyhu versus Greta and Bonnie Doon versus Benalla All Blacks – as well as Bright up against Tarrawingee and King Valley hosting Goorambat on Easter Saturday.
The senior football grand final re-play between Glenrowan and Tarrawingee will have to wait until round 6 while A grade grand finalists from 2016 in King Valley and Milawa meet just once – in round 10.
Due to the ongoing situation with the North Wangaratta Recreation Reserve, North Wangaratta will play four home games at the Norm Minns Oval and WJ Findlay Oval with a further home match against at Tarrawingee. Four of these matches will be Sunday fixtures while the Hawks’ round three clash against Greta will be held under lights at the Norm Minns Oval.
The season features two general byes with the first bye on May 20 due to the OKFNL’s Interleague match against Farrer which will be held in the Wangaratta area. The OKFNL will also have a bye on June 10 due to the Queen’s Birthday long weekend.
