Calder Cannons completed a clean sweep of the five round TAC Cup Girls competition to claim the inaugural title.
Calder and Murray Bushrangers both finished the season with five wins from as many matches, but the Cannons were awarded the premiership cup with a superior percentage of 412 compared to 232%.
Led by Melbourne Uni and Collingwood player Alicia Eva as coach, the Cannons won their final round match in convincing fashion, defeating Bendigo Pioneers by 63 points. Chloe Molloy again led the way up forward with three goals, kicking 20 for the season to win the competition leading goalkicker award, and shared the inaugural best and fairest award with Dandenong Stingray Bridie Kennedy. Molloy and Kennedy finished on 21 votes, one ahead of Calder's Madison Prespakis
With a fifth win complete, Calder needed to wait for the Murray Bushrangers result against Oakleigh Chargers before having the title win confirmed. The Chargers denied the Bushrangers any chance of stealing the title away from the Cannons, leading for three quarters before the Murray were able to kick three second-half goals to win by four points. The win completed a 5-0 to the season for Murray, but was not enough cut into the percentage gap with Calder. Grace Egan was best for Murray, completing a success season the Bushrangers, finishing sixth in the competition best and fairest.
In other results:
Northern Knights won a fourth straight game to finish fourth, with a 10-point win over Dandenong Stingrays. Leading by 16 points at half-time, the Knights had to overcome a third quarter revival by the Stingrays, as Dandenong took a four-point lead into the final term. The Knights steadied, kicking the first three goals of the final quarter to claim the win.
The Eastern Ranges finished strongly with an 82-point win over Gippsland Power. Lilly Kelly kicked three goals, with Melanie Hogg the best on ground.
Greater Western Victoria Rebels secured a 56-point win in the final round, leading from start to finish against Sandringham Dragons. Cecilia Lowrey kicked three for the Rebels.
Geelong Falcons finished in third spot after a 42-point win over Western Jets. Lucy McEvoy and Olivia Purcell were among the best for the Falcons, after finishing fourth and eighth respectively in the TAC Cup Girls best and fairest.
