Victorian Players to Dominate Draft
VICTORIAN teenagers are likely to dominate the top-20 selections in the AFL national draft on November 24.
As many as 18 Victorian youngsters could be taken with the first 20 selections, dominated by Greater Western Sydney, which has positioned itself to have 11 of the first 14 picks.
The top three selections pick themselves _ West Australian midfielder Stephen Coniglio, who has already played a lot of senior football for WAFL club Swan Districts, Jon Patton, a key-forward from TAC Cup club Eastern Rangers, and Oakleigh Chargers midfielder Dom Tyson.
The Giants will take promising young Northern Knights' Billy Longer, who could be the only ruckman selected in the top 20. At 202cm, the Victoria Metro captain averaged 29 hit-outs and dominated stoppage play in the TAC Cup last season.
Dandenong Stingrays defender Matthew Buntine is also likely to join the Giants, which has the first five selections.
Port Adelaide, which has selection No 6, seems certain to draft South Australian goal-kicking midfielder Chad Wingard.
Coniglio and Wingard may be the only players drafted from outside Victoria in the top 20.
