Dustin Fletcher
Dustin Fletcher, Essendon champion and former Western Jets draftee has just recently turned 39 and continues to strive towards the elusive 400 game mark. It’s been a long time since Dustin pulled on the royal blue and gold Jets Guernsey, so long he was actually a member of the Jets first ever side to compete in the TAC Cup. In that year (1992), Dustin was an integral member of the side, providing rock solid defence, and a key pillar in a side was able to reach the grand final, unfortunately finishing runners up. Dustin was also named in the TAC Cup team of the year, before being drafted to the Bombers as a father-son recruit.
Since then, Dustin has taken the AFL by storm, known for his penetrating long kicks and his ability to spoil and defend opponents with his long arms. In season 2014, has showed no signs of slowing down for the Bombers. Dustin recently broke the Essendon games record, surpassing club legend Simon Madden’s long standing 378. Currently in his 22nd season, Dustin still looks and moves no different to his prime, averaging 20.6 disposals and 7.2 marks a game after 9 rounds.
James Sicily
2013 Jets player and Hawthorn recruit James Sicily is progressing steadily towards an AFL debut. The Jets most recently drafted player has been plugging away in the VFL, lining up with Hawthorn affiliate side Box Hill Hawks working on his development. Having played 6 games so far, James’ performances have been impressive after taking the step up.
James’ knack of kicking goals at the Jets hasn’t eluded him, booting 8 majors to date, including a bag of 3 against Coburg. James also got named to play in Box Hill’s Foxtel Cup match, taking on West Perth at Etihad. His team unfortunately went down by 2 points, but James was a standout, finishing the match with 12 disposals, including 3.2 on the scoreboard, and was named amongst the best.
Jake McKenzie
Former Jets player Jake McKenzie has this year joined Williamstown in the VFL and is taking huge steps forward in his development. Brother of Gold Coast player Trent, Jake was overlooked at the draft in his TAC cup year but still remains on the radar of AFL clubs.
Having played 3 games in the VFL reserves, Jake was promoted into the senior side to take on Collingwood. He has been able to string together 3 games in a row, including two solid performances against Frankston and the Geelong Cats.
