Rennie’s Dan Howe is the latest Murray Bushranger to be promoted into the VFL following a call up to the Richmond VFL team for this weekend’s clash with Bendigo Gold. Howe returned to the Bushrangers in 2014 as a 19 year old and has demonstrated outstanding form with both the Bushrangers and the Victorian Country Under 18 team
Murray Bushrangers Talent Manager Lee Fraser highlighted that the VFL pathway as a crucial aspect of the clubs 19 year old program. “As a club we see it as a key component of the 19 year old season is getting exposure to the VFL, there is a clear pathway between TAC CUP, VFL and then into the AFL system”.
“TAC CUP coach Darren Ogier with the support of High Performance Manager Matt Glossop has worked with Dan in what is effectively his first full time year in the Murray Bushrangers program. Following a strong pre-season Dan has been a standout performer since the early intra clubs matches and carried his form throughout the season’.
Howe is penciled into play the final three games with the Tigers VFL team providing him with an opportunity to experience an AFL environment and perform against current listed AFL players.
Murray Bushrangers Talent Manger Lee Fraser emphasized the strong alignment between the TAC CUP and AFL clubs. “As a club we work closely with AFL clubs regarding our playing list, the Richmond Football Club have expressed interest in Dan playing in their VFL side, the time is now right for Dan to step into the VFL”.
At 191 centimeters Howe is likely to play a variety of roles for the Tigers including across half back and as an inside midfielder. Dan has a great opportunity to demonstrate his flexibility and hopefully further impress recruiters ahead of this year’s National Draft.
Howe is the 4th Murray Bushranger to get exposed to the VFL program following the successful progress of captain Nick Mellington, Mooroopna’s Nathan Drummond and more recently Kieran Ellis of Albury who is currently playing with the Essendon VFL team.
Whilst Howe has played his last home and away game for the Bushrangers the club is still in contention to play a big part in the 2014 TAC CUP finals series.
