David Mennen is set to play VFL football over the next two weeks after being nominated to play with the Collingwood VFL team. Mennen who starred in the Murray Bushrangers Round 1 defeat of Bendigo Pioneers has returned to the club as a 19 year old.
David will play against the Casey Scorpions this Saturday followed by a game against North Ballarat at Victoria Park on Saturday 11 April.
Mennen has played his football for Benalla and began with the Murray Bushrangers in 2013 as a bottom age player on the list and was selected in thirteen games. Mennen followed up with another fifteen games last season in a break out year that saw Mennen play two games with the Victorian Country squad in Perth and Adelaide.
Representative football has been a constant for the Benalla product, a Victorian player at Under 15, Under 16 and Under 18 level. Mennen was selected as a 17 year old in Future Stars game consisting of players from TAC Cup competition outside their state team. But unfortunately injured a shoulder and was unable to play. An ankle injury usurped his 2014 representative campaign with Mennen competing in just two of the games.
In season 2015, Mennen returns to the Murray Bushrangers as a 19 year old player with attendance at the 2014 State Screening; showing interest levels were high in his talent. Blessed with speed and continuous development in his hand and foot skills; the football magnet continues to work hard in all areas to showcase his skills.
A half back flank / winger, Mennen is determined to work his way into the midfield for the Murray Bushrangers during this season. Excited by his VFL opportunity, Mennen is determined to immerse himself into the culture of the football environments and learn from these opportunities.
While the exposure at VFL level will be beneficial; Mennen is determined to bring further experience and leadership back to the Bushrangers and development to his own game. Mennen bases his game around that of speed machine Bradley Hill from Hawthorn; but emphasises that developing his own niche is paramount in his football.
