The Murray Bushrangers have scored a decisive victory over the NSW/ACT Rams in Round 7 TAC Cup action at the Albury Sportsground. In the Battle on the Border, the Bushrangers scored a comfortable 30 point victory in slippery and wet conditions. The Albury Sportsground was in superb condition and the Bushrangers scored the first three goals of the game, two to Seymour’s Josh Schache and one to Congupna’s Luke Smith. The Bushrangers defenders were superb with Albury Duo Nick Coughlan and Lachlan Tiziani repelling many attacking forays from the Rams.
Wangaratta’s Murray Waite continued his excellent form with attack and defence highlights of his all-round game. Despite their attacking forays, the NSW/ACT outfit couldn’t maintain the intensity from the Bushrangers who were teaming well all over the ground. Benalla’s David Mennen was superb across the half back line and through the midfield whilst marking targets in Seymour Josh Schache and Wodonga’s Trent McMullan put pressure on the Rams Defense. The Murray team went into the half time break with a 13 point lead.
The third term saw NSW/ACT goal inside the first minute, but they didn’t score another goal for the term as the Murray boys consolidated their lead with four unanswered goals through Schache, Congupna Luke Smith and McMullan along with Shepparton’s Julius Batista. Yarrawonga ruck/forward Max Canfield was impressive with his run and athleticism giving the Murray team plenty of advantage. The three quarter time score saw the Bushrangers lead by 30 points.
The final term was played in two halves with NSW / ACT kicking the opening two goals and dominating possessions; however the Murray Bushrangers proved to have plenty of run in their legs culminating in two goals to Finley’s Levi Middleton. The Bushrangers move their win loss record to 4 and two with a game against Sandringham Dragons next Saturday at the Wangaratta Showgrounds from 1.00pm
