Young footballers from across the region will assemble in Wangaratta this Wednesday night for the annual North East Border vs Goulburn Murray Under 15 Trial Match. Both squads have been training since February with the aim of being selected to participate in the V-Line Championships to be held in Gippsland during the September school holidays.
Murray Bushrangers Talent Manager Lee Fraser was thrilled by the amount of talented young footballers being produced across the region. “Traditionally our Under 15 programs form the foundation of the Murray Bushrangers talent pathway. Under the guidance of outstanding development coaches and administrators the program has flourished for over 20 years and this year looks to be no different”. “This program not only provides great football development but travelling in a team environment is a great life experience for these young men”
“The format for this season has altered with Gippsland hosting the Championship in September, from there selected players will progress through to the Murray Bushrangers under 16 program in November”.
The Goulburn Valley squads will be coached by Scott Watson (Euroa Football Club) & Greg Shannon (Congupna Football Club) with the North East Border squads coached by Dale Smith (Wodonga Raiders) & Jeremy Campbell (Wangaratta Rovers).
With the support of the Rural City of Wangaratta and the Wangaratta Magpies Football Club the match will be played under lights at Norm Minns Oval with game 1 commencing at 5.00pm and a second game at 6.30pm. “We are lucky enough to have access to one of the premier regional AFL facilities to showcase some of the most talented junior footballers within our region”
