ONE round remaining, two teams in the mix.
The equation entering the final round of the inaugural TAC Cup Girls season appears simple for Calder Cannons, who face Bendigo Pioneers at Rams Arena on Friday.
A win against Bendigo should be enough to seal what would be an historic premiership, with Calder 123.64 per cent ahead of the competition’s other undefeated side – Murray Bushrangers.
While glory is tantalisingly close, Cannons vice-captain Alicia Rooth said the girls were staying focused on their task against the ninth-placed Pioneers.
“Definitely it’s a thought that excites everyone,” Rooth said.
“We are just going to keep pushing and doing our best and working as well as we have been.
“Just to keep improving, even throughout the game on Friday.”
Murray takes on Oakleigh on Friday from 2.30pm, one of six matches being played at Rams Arena as part of a feast of TAC Cup Girls football to round out the season.
Rooth said anyone who enjoyed the AFL Women’s season was encouraged to attend the final round and see the next crop of AFLW stars in action.
“Come down and have a look and see for yourself,” she said.
“If you haven’t even managed to watch the AFL Women’s, it’s definitely exciting to watch.
“The quality of footy is definitely getting better.”
Calder remained undefeated and reclaimed top spot on the ladder thanks to a 10.8 (68) to 2.3 (15) triumph against Oakleigh on Sunday.
Chloe Hodgson was prolific up forward in the 53-point win, bagging three goals, while Madison Prespakis, Felicity Theodore and Molly Warburton also impressed.
Calder’s final match of the TAC Cup Girls season starts at 1pm on Friday.
