Congratulations to Xavier O'Halloran, Zak Butters, Emerson Jeka, Stefan Radovanovic, Daly Andrews and Buku Khamis for making the final squad of 38 for Vic Metro ahead of the 2018 U/18 AFL National Championships.
Xavier, has thrived as club captain in 2018, he has been named in the best almost every game and was named as Captain in AFL Draft Central's Team of the Year to the halfway point of the season. It's no suprise Xavier has been held in high regard so far in 2018, his on and off field leadership is first class and his performances through the midfield have displayed the immense talent he has.
Zak Butters and reigning Barry Round medallist Stefan Radovanovic rounded out the Western Jets contingent in the AFL Draft Central mid-season TOTY. Both boys have made a brilliant start to 2018 and their selection is thoroughly deserved. They have shown why they are well touted prospects in season 2018, with their versatility to play any position on the ground as well as their heavy influence on the game making them clear stand outs week in week out.
Buku Khamis backs up his 2017 selection in the Vic Metro squad, by receiving another Blue Big V in 2018. A member of the AFL Academy as well as the Western Bulldogs Next Generation Academy, Buku has solidified himself as one the competition's most reliable defenders in 2018. He's intercept marking ability backed by his damaging left foot, has made him a standout performer in the last month, helping the club to it's current 6-2 record.
For Daly Andrews, this is a huge achievement. This true Werribee District boy in his first season at TAC Cup level has put his name up in lights. From his dazzling pace on the wing, to his instrumental pressure and willingness to take the game on, Daly is one of many Western Jets success stories from the second term school holiday trial games from 2017, and no doubt will excite if given the chance in the championships.
Finally, Emerson Jeka in his bottom age TAC Cup year makes the squad, which is a remarkable achievement. The 197cm key position player has shown his true attributes down forward kicking multiple crucial goals and has shown his versatility going down the backline and making his mark down there. Also an AFL Academy member, Emerson is a name to watch out for in the future.
All the best to the six boys for the upcoming carnival, everyone at the Club is right behind you.
