Western Jets 0.0 I 0.1 I 0.1 I 1.3 (9)
Dandenong Stingrays 3.1 I 4.3 I 8.6 I 9.6 (60)
It was a sad end to the Jets season as Dandenong proved to be too good last Sunday. The final score saw Dandenong 9.6(60) beat the Jets 1.3(9).
The game started off with Dandenong take control early, their two St Kilda guns in Molly McDonald and Isabella Shannon fired early in the midfield. Westerns' defence was under enormous pressure as the Stingrays booted three unanswered goals to end the first term with the Jets kept scoreless.
Dandenong's pressure increased in the second term as they kicked another to leave the Western girls flat. Repeated rebounds and extra numbers on the outside of the contest were killing the Jets. Western finally managed to score but it was only a behind that ended the quarter.
The third term had Dandenong kick another 4 unanswered goals as the Jets failed to score. Ruby Tripodi was trying desperately in the midfield to get her team back in the contest, but with the late withdrawal from Emma Grant, there was only so much she could do.
In the last act, Elisabeth Georgostathis was pushed into the midfield and made an immediate impact. Unfortunately, Dandenong scored another major from a slingshot from defensive 50. The Jets only consolation from this game was when Laura Wright managed to kick a goal off the deck to end a painful day.
Despite the loss, the Jets have shown immense progress when compared to their previous to seasons. Elisabeth Georgostathis found a new home across halfback and finished fourth in the competition for disposals. Isabella Grant and Ruby Tripodi were solid in the midfield with slick skills and a hunger to win the ball.
Taylah Kolevski had a dominant year as the number 1 ruck, she finished with 149 hit-outs for the season. Even bottom ager Montana Ham showed immense talent as she was elevated into the senior list. The future of the Jets may be uncertain, but coach Zach Ried is proud of everything the Jets have achieved this year.
Goal Kickers: L. Wright
Best Players: R. Tripodi, J. Woods, M. Ham, E. Georgostathis, P. Ozols, E. Kiely
Hero of the Day: Ruby Tripodi
The young gun was extremely impressive under difficult circumstances. She would have loved to end the season on a high note but there was no doubt she was the best midfielder for the Jets last Sunday. For those who follow the VFLW Ruby Tripodi has signed with the Williamstown Seagulls and will compete in 2019.
