In heavy conditions, the Jets fell to the Cannons at RAMS Arena. Calder played their ground well and Western came up short. The final score saw Calder Canons defeat the Western Jets by 22 points.
The game started off as a tug of war. Both defences were holding up well as Lucas Rocci looked like a general down back. His support in Josh Kellett and Cody Raak were equally as impressive. Forwards were having a hard time scoring as the wind that haunts RAMS Arena came into play at every set shot. Only behinds were managed in the first term with Calder a point in front.
In the second term, Calder was on the attack. Though inaccurate at first, the Cannons kicked the first goal of the game. The Jets were scoreless in this quarter but came out firing the next. With the wind at their backs, clearances were lifted by an extra 5 metres and the ball was living in the Jets forward line.
Eddie Ford was first to score as Western began to pepper the goal face. Unfortunately, they only managed a few minor scores before Calder went on the offensive. The Cannons kicked two more majors before the siren to lead with an eleven point buffer.
In the Final term, Saad El-Hawli was out of the blocks early booting his first major of the day. But the Cannons began to fire soon after. Three unanswered goals by Calder had the game done and dusted. The Cannons played the conditions well and the Jets fell short in a tough contest.
Hero of the day: Cody Raak
It seems the defenders have become light for Western in the last few rounds. Raak was quick to the contest, stuck with his opponent, and repelled many of Calder's attacks. He finished the game with 16 disposals, 6 marks, and 2 rebounds. Unfortunately, there were no stats for the number of spoils he made.
