In an epic clash between third and fourth, the Jets have managed to claw their way to victory over the Dragons. The final score saw the Jets 12.7(79) defeated Sandringham 10.10(70).
From the opening bounce, Sandringham was on the attack. The ball was living inside their forward line but the Jets weren't allowing any cheap goals. A quick rebound from Western found Harrison White who unleashed a monster from outside 50 to kick the Jets first goal. It was met with a quick response from the Dragons which took only seconds.
But the Jets weren't going away as the returning tall timber Aaron Clarke quickly found his first goal of the day. Sandringham was winning plenty of ball but Western was creating plenty of turnovers. Cody Raak was like a quarterback in defence and he was feeding the wings with great supply.
Soon Jonah Horo weaved some magic through traffic to kick another for the Jets as momentum started to build. Unfortunately, the Dragons kicked two unanswered goals late to tie the game up for the first term.
The second quarter began with the Dragons kicking another goal but Clarke responded as the big man had his kicking boots on. Sandringham then peppered the gaol face but for all there dominance they only managed one goal to finish the term.
In the third act, the Jets unleashed a sonic boom. William Kennedy was starting to dominate the ruck and forwards were getting their share of chances. A long bomb from Lucas Failli was the beggining, Archie Manton soon followed after a run-down tackle that gave him his major of the day. Kennedy was next with a snap around the corner and Lucas Failli goaled from point-blank soon after.
Manton was next to step up as a dribbler from a tight angle found its way through the big sticks and the Jets were flying. Momentum started to build for Western as Clarke found himself all alone in his attacking half to kick his third as Failli kicked his third as well. Sandringham finally struck back but Lachlan green quickly responded to end the third term.
The Jets were flying but the Dragons awoke in the final quarter and rained fire on the Western defence. The Jets had a handy lead but Sandringham managed to chew it back. Five unanswered goals had Western in trouble as the game started to slip away. Sandringham had the chance to steal the win but time ran out and the Jets escaped.
The Jets have the bye for the next two weeks but now currently sit third on the ladder as they head into the final rounds of the home and away season.
Hero of the day: William Kennedy
Now that Clarke has returned, Kennedy has resumed his duties as the number one ruck and looks back to his best. He finished the game with 33 hit-outs, 6 marks, and 15 disposals to cap off a brilliant performance.
