In the second quarter, Western were starting to peg back the margin. Josh Honey and Eddie Ford were starting to win some clearances and push the Jets forward. A great crumb by Archie Manton got his first of the day as the big forward was threatening.
The Rebels hit back again but Manton responded after a beautiful pass by Nash Reynolds hit Manton right on the chest directly in front of goal.
Unfortunately, a slingshot from the Rebels went end to end as GWV showed some real pace. This last goal angered the Jets as Western began to pepper the goal face.
After three straight behinds, Manton managed to crumb his third goal out the back of the pack uncontested. Western was creeping into the game with the Rebels only two points ahead at halftime.
The third quarter started off with an arm wrestle. Eventually, Failli showed some class up forward with a quick snap around goal to give the Jets the lead. Daly Andrews was racking up the possessions and was well complemented by Honey.
The Rebels would retake the lead in the third as GWV proved their persistence. The Rebels claimed another major soon after from a long bomb that was gunbarrel straight.
But the Jets were not done. The NAB League-leading goal kicker responded as Manton proved too tall for the Rebels defence. Billy Cootee was next to claim his first major of the day after unleashing a bomb from outside 50 that hit its intended target.
The Jets were up and about and had one quarter left to qualify for finals.
In the fourth term, the Jets went into Top Gun mode. Failli was first to extend the margin to claim his third followed by Honey. Clarke had no problem converting from 50 out for his second major and Andrews bent it like Beckham for his second.
Lukas Rocci and Darcy Cassar were playing the perfect suppliers for the Jets forward line as they denied the Rebels entry into their attacking half. Daniel Bolkas was next to step up getting out the back as Failli claimed his fourth.
A late set shot to Mace Cousins put the icing on the cake. The Jets had obliterated the Rebels by 50 points.
Hero's of the Day: Darcy Cassar and Archie Manton
When you have two players that are equally influential up forward and back you can't go passed, Cassar and Manton. Manton was a bull in the contest as his contested mark and goal kicking have been a feature this year. Cassar has been well missed down back, he received a spot in the NAB League Team of the Year later on that night which was thoroughly deserved.
Manton finished with 4.3 goals, 13 disposals, and 3 marks
Cassar finished with 26 disposals, 9 marks, and 5 rebounds
